I will admit, the R&R from another agent is taking a whole lot of sting away from this pass, even though that may not amount to anything. I’m also willfully clinging to the great compliments here. Nearly every pass has cited good writing, and we all know how much the imposter syndrome likes to tell us otherwise on that one. I will absolutely take that, please and thank you 🥹.

Trying for a writing binge today ✌🏻.

I’m at the ✨make or break✨ chapter of this book, and it’s literally causing me to loose sleep. I need it out.

I took a much needed recovery break yesterday, so I still need to incorporate 1700 words into a different POV, and then it’ll be a race to the chapter break. It’s one of those days where the dishes won’t get done and all the meals will either be microwave or takeout.

My characters have my full attention ✨

I had a wonderful back and forth with a (let’s be honest) dream agent today, and now I have new direction! It’s mostly a pacing change up, some magical rule building, and digging down on some themes—which you all know I love 😉. Here’s hoping I can pull it off to her expectations! 👏🏻

Print copy’s ordered, and while I wait for that, I’m going to dive back into STARS. I’m chomping at the bit with all this writerly excitement, so there’s no way I’ll be able to sit still for the next few days.

This may not turn into something, but it’s certainly not nothing 👀.

At 97,000 words, we’re finally here: the climax. A prayer for my characters and all they’re about to experience, and a moodboard to celebrate the milestone.

I finished the last transitional chapter yesterday in an obsessive, constant plod and managed to give myself some relief from the “no matter what I’m doing, I’m thinking about this book so there is no rest” energy. Fully seizing that and taking as much of a break this weekend as I can—because once I start this next chapter, I’m a goner.

I will likely be unwell, emotionally, for about three weeks after I type THE END, so you know, send the vibes or something. This book, man. I did this to myself.

I did this.
To myself.

Here’s hoping I do my job well enough that you understand all this, one day.

Welp, I just wrote the spiciest scene of my life. God help the people who let me publish it one day (fingers crossed, of course 😘), and save the readers who will hopefully love me for it. Most importantly, good luck and good skill, future Christina, when it comes time to edit this bish.

Stars is very quickly moving from problem child to passion project with all these layered themes. Act 3’s ✨resonating✨. I’m ready to fight for my darlings.

I was writing Stars’s winter solstice on Beltane

I was writing Stars’s winter solstice on Beltane—a chapter opening that takes me directly into the scene I’ve been *racing* towards this whole draft. THE scene. The one I’ve been daydreaming about this whole time. The one that then takes me into the SECOND most daydreamed about scene. Then the THIRD. This whole ending is the ✨entire✨ mood.

And I just wasn’t feeling it.

The term I’m using (pardon the language), is “dragging ass creatively.” Missed an emotional character beat, had a hard time coming up with lyrical description, wasn’t excited about what comes next. Still banged out a usual session word count because I’m good at pushing, but—

I’m frustrated (as I usually am 🤦🏻‍♀️) because I’m SO CLOSE to the end, and the end comes with a *massive* break from this book to get fresh eyes for edits and a palate cleanser for drafting with Project Cosmic (which I clearly desperately need). But alas, time to practice my own advice. The body wants what the body wants.

And the body wants a break. If you need me, I’ll be smashing the Monster Hunter Rise DLC and catching up on some reading ✌🏻.

Winner, winner, chicken dinner!

I will admit, for this Camp NaNoWriMo, I fell prey to the “I’m going to set a reasonable goal, but secretly, I’m going to hope I smoke it and reach this completely other *un*attainable goal.” So the victory feels hollow—of course 🤦🏻‍♀️.

When I had that two day streak of writing a chapter a day, I got my hopes up for my old writing pace. But that’s just not me anymore, or at least not now. My prose is cleaner, which takes time, the story isn’t as soul-tapped, which makes sense, and every time I got a request, I had some good old fashioned insomnia—which like, I’ll take 😂👏🏻, but bone-tired doesn’t make for good creativity.

Regardless, I wrote more for camp than I did for *actual* NaNo, and it was fun tracking my progress! More importantly, it got me up to those scenes I’ve always wanted to write 🔥.

Perhaps one final month of 20k? Only time will tell 👀.
